Kraken Weekly: Down to earth

After the last couple weeks being really great pulling off some very impressive wins against the NHL’s best teams, it looks like the Seattle Kraken are starting to come back down to earth a bit. Let’s take a look back at this week as the Kraken hosted the Penguins, Jets, & Blue Jackets at Climate Pledge Arena:

Penguins blowout Kraken 6-1 at home (12/6/21)

Blanked by Hellebuyck and Jets 3-0 (12/9/21)

Comeback falls short in OT against Blue Jackets (12/11/21)

How’s it Kraken? My thoughts on the week that was:

It looks like the Kraken are starting to come back down to earth after a string of wins against the best teams the NHL has to offer. Despite losing and being outmatched by the Penguins, and Jets…fortunately Seattle was able to pick up a point in an overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. They look like in particular against the Penguins and Jets to have lost their defense first mentality that was working in previous weeks. Against Columbus, they made a valiant effort and made a comeback to force overtime and got a point out of it despite the loss. Unfortunately, not having dynamic and game changing scorers doesn’t help you get the extra point but at least they picked up a point nonetheless. I want to see the Kraken get back to what was working with a defense first on a consistent basis. You can’t do it one game and then not the rest. Especially since you don’t have high end skill scoring, you have to have a plan to win games and then stick to that plan. If Seattle can do that, they can make a little more noise and get back into playoff position. We’ll see what happens this week as the Kraken take on the Sharks and Ducks on the road for a back to back, and then return home for another back to back set against the Oilers and Maple Leafs…stay tuned Seattle!
