PHF Weekend Recap – Weekend Sweeps

Welcome to the TXHT PHF Weekend Recap for the Weekend of Saturday, December 4th and Sunday, December 5th, 2021, plus news coming out of the weekend.

Saturday, December 4th, 2021

Game #1 – Minnesota Whitecaps v. Connecticut Whale

  • In Connecticut the Whale would host the Minnesota Whitecaps, and after a scoreless first period Amanda Conway would open the scoring the for the Whale as they would then get goals from Allie Munroe, Alyssa Wohlfeiler, and Taylor Girard to give the Whale the 4-0 lead. Then in the third period Alex Woken would score to get the Whitecaps on the board, but Catherine Crawley would strike to give the Whale the 5-1 victory over the Whitecaps.

Game #2 – Toronto Six v. Boston Pride

  • In Boston the Pride would host the Toronto Six, and after a scoreless first period Emma Woods would score for the Six to take the 1-0 lead. Then in the third period Jillian Dempsey would score to tie the game at one and send it to overtime for the Pride. After the extre five minutes of hockey could not give us a winner it would be McKenna Brand in the shootout to give the Pride the 2-1 victory over the Six.

Sunday, December 5th, 2021

Game #1 – Minnesota Whitecaps v. Connecticut Whale

  • In Connecticut for the second game of their weekend series the Whale would host the Minnesota Whitecaps, and after a scoreless first period Taylor Girard and Amanda Conway would score for the Whale, but goals from Joanna Curtis and Allie Thunstrom would score to tie the game at two for the Whitecaps. Then in the third period Girard would score two more goals to complete the hat trick and give the Whale the 4-2 victory and the sweep the weekend series over the Whitecaps.

Game #2 – Toronto Six v. Boston Pride

  • In Boston the Pride would host the Toronto Six for the second game of their weekend series, and in the first period Jillian Dempsey would score to give the Pride the 1-0 lead. In the second period Taylor Day would score for the Six, but goals from Meghara McManus, Taylor Wenczkowski, Sammy Davis, and Jenna Rheault would score to give the Pride the four goal lead. Then in the third period Lindsay Eastwood would score for the Six, but goals from Christina Putigna would score and Davis and Dempsey would net their second of the game to give the Pride the 8-2 victory over the Six.

News and Notes

  • The PHF named Metropolitan Riveters forward Rebecca Russo the Player of the Month for November.
    • In four games played for the Riveters, Russo would record 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points.
    • Russo would have multi-point games in all four contests she would play in.
  • The PHF announced that the 2022 All Star Showcase will becoming to Toronto.
    • The Showcase will take place on Saturday, January 29th.

3 Stars of the Week

First Star – Taylor Girard (CTW)

  • Girard would record five points in the weekend series against the Whitecaps for the Whale. She would record a goal and an assist on Saturday, and then on Sunday she would record her first career hat trick.

Second Star – Jillian Dempsey (BOS)

  • Dempsey would lead the Pride’s offense with three goals and four points for the weekend. On Saturday she would record a goal, and then on Sunday Dempsey would record two goals and an assist as the Pride would sweep the Six.

Third Star – Kennedy Marchment (CTW)

  • Marchment would record four assists in her two games played for the Whale. She would record two assists in both games.
