New Jersey Devils (8-5-4 20pts) vs
Minnesota Wild 12-6-1 25pts)
Game Recap:
Happy Thanksgiving eve! The New Jersey Devils welcome in the Minnesota Wild for this pre-holiday matchup. It would be a pretty even first period between the two teams until the 12:10 mark when Ryan Hartman scored to give the Wild a 1-0 lead. Hartman parked in front of the net and tipped in a shot from Dmitriy Kulikov to beat Devils goalie MacKenzie Blackwood for his tenth goal of the season. Before the end of the period, Nico Sturm scored a goal short handed to expand the Wild’s lead to 2-0. Sturm jumped on the odd-man rush with Freddie Gaudreau, who sent a saucer pass right back to him for a one-timer and the goal for his fourth goal of the season. Minnesota would have 2-0 lead after the first period.
The second period was very close as both teams didn’t have many shots and the scoring chances were limited. However, the New Jersey Devils were able to get themselves back in the game. Pavel Zacha received a pass from Nico Hischier from behind the goal line and buried a shot past Wild goalie Cam Talbot to get the game within one goal. Late in the period with the extra attacker, Yegor Sharangovich tied the game up 2-2 as he collected a rebound in front of the net for his third goal of the year. This game would require overtime. Both teams had really good chances to win it in overtime but, we’re unable to capitalize on their chances. So, this game would be decided in a shootout where Kevin Fiala was the shootout hero as he scored to the lone goal to give the Minnesota Wild a 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils. The Devils are back in action on Friday night as they head to the “Music City” to take on the Nashville Predators.
