Buffalo Beauts (0-1-0 0pts) v. Metropolitan Riveters (1-1-0 3pts)
Game Recap:
For the first time since the 2018-19 season the Metropolitan Riveters return to the Barnabas Health Hockey House (Prudential Center Practice Facility) to play hockey, and who better to host in their return there then who they beat for the 2018 Isobel Cup, the Buffalo Beauts. In the first period the Beauts would get themselves into early penalty problems as they would have to do back to back penalty kills to start the game, but the Beauts would stand tall against the Rivs as they would get a great scoring chance shorthanded on the first penalty kill, and on both penalty kills they hold hold the Rivs at bay to kill off both penalties. As the period went on both teams would settle in and both Sonjia Shelly and Carly Jackson would keep both teams off of the scoreboard. Late in the period Kelly Babstock would get called for cross checking to give the Beauts thier first powerplay of the game, but Shelly would keep them off the board as this game would go into the first intermission scoreless.
In a penalty filled second period the Riveters would find themselves on the scoresheet. While neither team would take advantage of their powerplay opportunities, the Rivs would strike first midway through the game as Kendall Cornine would strike for her second of the season to give the Rivs the 1-0 lead. then in a span of 50 seconds Nora Maclaine and Rebecca Russo would score to increase the Riveters lead to three. However, late in the period Anjeica Diffendal would net her first career PHF goal to get the Beauts on the board and cut their deficit to two. Going into the second intermission the Beauts would take a 4 on 3 powerplay opportunity with them.
Then in the third period the Beauts would strike on the powerplay as Dominique Kremer would net a beautiful backhander past Shelly to give the Beauts the first powerplay goal of the game and cut the Riveters lead to one. Then moments later Diffendal would net her second of the game to tie the game at three for the Beauts. Frustration would set in as Babstock would take her second consecutive penalty as she would be called for cross checking. On the powerplay the Beauts would generate some really great scoring chances, but Shelly would stand tall to keep the game tied at three. Both teams would trade powerplay opportunities, but neither would be able to capitalize on them as this game would go to overtime tied at three.
In the extra frame it would be Cassidy Vinkle with a sneaky puck slipping five hole through Sonjia Shelly to give the Beauts their first win of the season as they complete the comeback to down the Riveters 4-3.
