Minnesota Whitecaps (0-0-0 0pts) v. Boston Pride (0-0-0 0pts)
Game Recap:
In boston we would be treated to a rematch of the Isobel Cup Championship game as the Pride would play host to the Minnesota Whitecaps. In the first period the Whitecaps would get themselves into penalty trouble early on as Winnie Brodt-Brown would get called for interference, and it would be Taylor Wenczkowski on the powerplay to give the Pride their first goal of the PHF era. Then later in the period Jillian Dempsey would net her first of the season, and her 50th career NWHL/PHF goal to grow the Pride’s lead to two. Paige Capistran would get called for tripping in the final minutes to give the Whitecaps their first powerplay of the game.
Heading into the second period the Whitecaps would be unsuccessful on their powerplay opportunity, and the Pride would take advantage as McKenna Brand would score on a beautiful backhander to grow the Pride’s lead to three. Later on Meghara McManus would get called for hooking and then Nicole Schammel would be called for Slashing to give back to back powerplay opportunities to the Whitecaps and Pride, but neither team would be able to capitalize on them. However, Meghara McManus would score late in the period to give the Pride the 4-0 lead over the Whitecaps.
In the third period the Whitecaps would come to life as Jonna Curtis would score to get them on the board and end the Pride’s shutout bid. However, Kayla Friesen would strike to retake the four goal lead for the Pride. Ashleigh Brykaliuk would go to the box for tripping to give the Pride another powerplay, but they would not strike until after the powerplay ended as Evelina Raselli would strike to give the Pride the 6-1 lead. But the Whitecaps would not lie down as Lexie Laing would score her first as a Whitecap to cut the Pride’s lead back to four, and then on the powerplay and later shorthanded Allie Thunstrom would score a pair of goals for the Whitecaps to claw back into it, but it would not be enough as the Pride would go on to win 6-4.
