2021-22 Preview

Will the Whitecaps please release their roster and make this easier?

3 Legit Questions:

What kind of role does Lexie Laing fill?

Late in the offseason, the Whitecaps announced the signing of forward Lexie Laing. She played 2 years with the Boston Pride amassing 30 points in 31 games played (13 goals and 17 assists). The Whitecaps already have great offensive firepower in Allie Thunstrom, Jonna Curtis, Audra Morrison, Meghan Lorence, Haley Mack. Now you’re adding Laing to this awesome mixture, it will be very interesting to see where she slots in and how well she’ll contribute.

How will the defense look?

One of the key losses in this position is Amanda Boulier. The stalwart defender was great at getting clutch goals and being very steady in the D zone. The main core of the defense is still here for the Whitecaps. Emma Stauber, Chelsey Brodt-Rosenthal, Winny Brodt-Brown, Sara Bustad. However, there are some new pieces coming in like Mak Langei, Taylor Turnquist, Patricia Marshall. Of the new players coming in, Turnquist already has PHF experience, having played for the Boston Pride. It will be interesting to see how the coach uses his young defenders, and which veterans get paired up with them.

Will the Whitecaps make it back to the Cup Final?

It is amazing to think that this will be the fourth year the Whitecaps have been in the league. The first year they came in, they won the Isobel Cup against the Buffalo Beauts. Their second year, they made it to the finals against the Boston Pride, but due to Covid, the game was never played. Last season, they once again made it to the finals, against the Pride. They came up short that season, but played a heck of a game. Will they make the finals this season upcoming? It’s entirely possible. As of writing this coming up to midnight on 11/3, they still haven’t announced a goalie. Although we can assume it will be Leveille and Morse. They have the offensive firepower, and great goaltending to lead them on a deep run once again.

*EDIT* As of around 11a, the Whitecaps have finally announced a goalie. Signing their draft pick Jenna Brenneman.

*EDIT* Looks like Leveille is back!
