3 Questions:

How will Taylor Girard handle her rookie year?

For the first time in the team’s history, the Whale had the number 1 overall selection, which they chose forward Taylor Girard from Quinnipiac University. She had a rather successful college career, playing 5 years, her first 3 at Lindenwood University and her last 2 years at Quinnipiac University. During her senior year, she was second on the team in terms of points (16 points) and tied with Taylor House for the team lead in goals (7 goals). What will be the talented forward’s role on the team be? And will she suffer an adjustment period as she gets used to the PHF game speed? It is worth pointing out that in the first two preseason games, she’s played on a line with veteran Cailey Hutchison and rookie Emma Polaski.

How will Abbie Ives handle the number 1 role?

During the Lake Placid season, Abbie Ives was splitting duties with Brooke Wolejko. Now that Wolejko has joined the Riveters for the season upcoming, the clear choice for the number 1 Whale goalie is Ives. She posted some good numbers during her rookie campaign, a 2.01 GAA and a .936 Save Percentage in 4 games. With a 20 game season upcoming, how many of those games will be her’s to lead the team?

Who will lead the team in goals?

Last season, Katelynn Russ lead the team in goals with 2. The previous season before that, it was Emma Vlasic who lead the team with 9 goals. While Russ left to join the Boston Pride, that would certainly open the door for Vlasic to take back her scoring title. However, late in the offseason, the Whale added another leading goal scorer from their 2017-18 campaign in Emily Fluke (4 goals). Scoring has been an issue with the Whale, as they have been on the minus end of the goal differential in every season except the founding season back in 2015. Who will lead the way for them during this season upcoming?
