The 2021 NWHL draft is upcoming. The Whale will be making four selections this year, after they traded up in the draft to get the first overall pick. It will be the first time the Whale are picking number 1 overall in team history. Here is the rest of the draft order for Connecticut:

Last year in the 2020 draft, the Whale selected 6 players:
Kayla Friesen (F)
Victoria Howran (D)
Savannah Rennie (F)
Amanda Conway (F)
Nicole Guagliardo (F)
Maddie Bishop (F)
Of those 6 players, 5 of them would go on to play for the team in Season 6.
Finding Talent:
The Whale have had limited success in the draft, 2020 being their best. However, they have found talent in other drafts. The Whale selected forward Samantha Donovan in round 2 of the 2017 draft. In that same draft, they also selected forward Nina Rodgers in the fifth round as well. Also, in the 2016 draft, they selected goalie Sydney Rossman in the fifth round.
