#3 Tampa Bay Lightning v. #1 Carolina Hurricanes – Game 1
Game Recap:
In Carolina for game one of the second round, the Hurricanes would play host to the defending 2020 Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning. In the first period it would be the Lightning having to weather the storm that the Hurricanes were bringing. Through the use of their speed the Canes would cause the Bolts to take two penalties. While the Canes wouldn’t score on either opportunity, they did get some good quality scoring chances. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Alex Nedeljkovic would stand tall in their respective nets to keep the game tied at zero.
In the second period the penalty box would open up for the Canes as they would be penalized three times in the period, and the Bolts would take advantage of one of them. On their first powerplay Brayden Point would redirect a Victor Hedman point blast to give the Lightning the 1-0 lead over the Hurricanes. The Bolts would take two penalties as well, but the Canes couldn’t capitalize on their first one of the period, and their second one will carry over into the third period.
Then in the third period while still on the powerplay that carried over from the second, Jake Bean would score with seconds left in the extra man advantage to tie the game at one for the Canes. However, late in the period Barclay Goodrow would score a very awkward goal to give the Lightning the lead again. The Canes would push hard after giving up the goal, but the Bolts would hold on for the 2-1 victory to take game one.
