#1 Carolina Hurricanes v. #4 Nashville Predators – Game 3
Hurricanes Lead Series 2-0
Game Recap:
With the series shifting over to Nashville, the Carolina Hurricanes look to make their a lead a commanding three game lead over the Predators. In the first period the Preds would strike first as Ryan Ellis would launch the puck from the point through a crowd to get past Alex Nedeljkovic to take the 1-0 lead. However, later in the period with a little less than five minutes left in the period Sebastian Aho whould shot the puck off of Roman Josi’s stick and past Juuse Saros to tie the game at one for the Canes, but Filip Forsberg would score with less than 30 seconds left in the period to give the Preds the one goal lead once again as the Predators would take the 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Then in the second period the Canes would start the period shorthanded off of a delay of game penalty, but after killing the penalty it would be Jordan Staal with his third of the playoffs to tie the game at two for the Canes. The Preds would get another powerplay opportunity, but the Canes would blank the Preds once again with their perfect penalty kill. After kill the Canes would get back to back powerplays due to Mattias Ekholm penalties, and despite not striking on the first opportunity, it would be Vincent Trocheck on the second powerplay chance to score and give the Canes the lead for the first time in this game. However, the Canes would get themselves into penalty trouble and the Preds would finally strike as Mikael Granlund would score to tie the game at three.
In the third period Ryan Johansen would score five minutes into the period to give the Predators the lead. Both teams would trade powerplay opportunities, and despite a heavy push on Carolina’s opportunity they would not score on the powerplay, but they would score on a Brett Pesce blast to tie the game at four to send the game to overtime.
After going scoreless in the first overtime period it would be Matt Duchene in the second overtime period to give the Preds the 5-4 victory and bring Carolina’s series lead down to one.
