Philadelphia Flyers (19-16-6 44pts) v. Washington Capitals (27-11-4 58pts)
Game Recap:
After making a splash at the Trade Deadline, Anthony Mantha would make his Washington Capitals debut as they would play host to the Philadelphia Flyers. In the first period we would see both teams feel eachother out a little bit, but as the period progressed it would be Conor Sheary to break the ice with his 11th of the season to give the Caps the 1-0 lead. However, a little over a minute later Sean Couturier would tip in a James van Riemsdyk shot to tie the game at one, but back to back powerplay goals by Tom Wilson and Nicklas Backstrom, and an even strength tally by Carl Hagelin would give the Caps the 4-1 lead.
In the second period it would be a more quiet period, but the Capitals would kill off the lone Flyers powerplay of the period, and then Anthony Mantha would net his first goal as a Capital to grow the Caps lead to four.
In the third period both teams would trade powerplay opportunities, and while the Flyers would get shut down once again by the Caps penalty kill, it would be Alex Ovechkin’s continued climb up the goal scoring ranks as he would net his 22nd of the season while on the powerplay to give the Capitals the 6-1 victory.
