Capitals v. Flyers: Jensen’s First as a Cap Sinks Flyers

Washington Capitals (13-6-4 30pts) v. Philadelphia Flyers (12-6-3 27pts)

Game Recap:

In Philadelphia for a battle in front of fans for the first time since March of 2020, the Washington Capitals would do battle with the Flyers. In the first period it would be a very quiet for the first half of the period, but then Travis Konecny would shoot one right through the legs of Ilya Samsonov to give the Flyers the 1-0 lead. Both teams would get a powerplay opportunity afterwards, but neither team would score as the Flyers kept the one goal lead heading into the first intermission.

In the second period we would see some interesting back and forth between the Caps and the Flyers where they would trade penalties within seconds of each other, but it wouldn’t be until later in the period when Alex Ovechkin would net his eighth of the season to tie the game at one, and then with 16 seconds left in the period Dmitry Orlov would get the puck through Carter Hart to give the Caps the 2-1 lead.

Then in the third period Nick Jensen would net his first career goal as a Capital to give the Capitals the 3-1 victory over the Flyers in what was otherwise a very quiet third period.
