NHL Stars of the Week – Matthews Shines Above All For Top Honors

Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of February 15th through 21st.

First Stars – Austin Matthews (C – TOR) and Elisa Simpson (Covenant House BensKids Health Centre)

  • Simpson has been a registered nurse since 2013, and works as the lead nurse at the Convenant House BensKids Health Centre in Toronto where she works with youth who experience homelessness and who are survivors of sex trafficking, and makes sure they receive the mental and physical health support they need.
  • Matthews lead the League with seven goals and 12 points for the week. He would also tally four powerplay goals and six powerplay points in four games played for the Maple Leafs. In three games against the Ottawa Senators, Matthews would tally 5 goals and 3 assists for 8 points between Feb. 15ht through 18th. Then on Feb. 20th against Montreal, Matthews would score two goals and two assists for his second four point game of the week.

Second Star – Connor McDavid (C – EDM)

  • McDavid would come in second behind Matthews with three goals and six assists for nine points in four games played for the Oilers. In two games against the Winnipeg Jets, McDavid would notch four assists on Feb. 15th and 17th. Then after being held off the scoresheet on Feb. 19th by Calgary, McDavid would score 3 goals and two assists for 5 points on Feb. 20th against Calgary.

Third Star – David Pastrnak (RW – BOS)

  • Pastrnak would round out the top three after scoring four goals in two game splayed for the Bruins. On Feb. 18th versus New Jersey he would record one goal, but then on Feb. 21st at the Outdoor Game at Lake Tahoe, Pastrnak would guide the Bruins to a commanding 7-3 victory over Philadelphia with three goals to end the week.
