1st Period Analysis and Summary

The Islanders strike early at 1:24 with Matt Martin putting the puck in the back of the net. The goal is Martin’s fifth in the postseason.

Alex Killorn drills Brock Nelson into to boards and Nelson is slow to get up. Killorn is issued a 5 minute major penalty for Boarding. Nelson heads off the ice to get checked out by the medical staff. That is a bad penalty for Nelson. Killorn is also issued the game misconduct penalty, ending his night only 5:55 into game play. Pat Maroon is serving the penalty for Killorn.

The five minute major penalty comes to an end with the Islanders unable to extend the lead. New York gets five shots off during the penalty.

The New York Islanders go on the penalty kill when Ryan Pulock heads to the box on a Tripping call at 13:54. Tampa Bay does not get a shot of during the power play and the score remains 1-0 New York.
