Qualifier Preview – Arizona Coyotes

With second training camp underway, the Arizona Coyotes prepare for the opportunity to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Record: 33-29-8 74 points

11th Place in the Western Conference

The Coyotes head to Edmonton looking to face the sixth ranked Nashville Predators in the Qualifying Round to advance to the Stanley Cup playoffs, and challenge for the Stanley Cup.

During the 2019-20 season the Coyotes were lead by Nick Schmaltz who had 11 goals and 34 assists for 45 points in 70 games played, but also saw the emergence of forward Conor Garland who would lead the team with 22 goals. In his first season with the Coyotes, Phil Kessel would tally 14 goals and 24 assists for 38 points while mid season trade acquisition Taylor Hall would record 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points in 35 games played (after recording 6 goals and 19 assists for 25 points in 30 games with New Jersey).

On defense the Coyotes are lead by Alex Goligoski (4 goals, 28 assists for 32 points) and captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson (9-21-30), and with a healthy Jakob Chychrun and Niklas Hjalmarsson on the blue line, the Coyotes should be very formidable against the Predators in their five game series.

Between the pipes for the Coyotes, both Darcy Kuemper and Antti Raanta were a steady tandom for the Coyotes. In 32 games started Raanta would go 15-4-3 with a 2.63 GAA and a .921 Save Percentage, while Kuemper would go 16-11-2 in 29 games started with a 2.22 GAA and a .928 Save Percentage.

But never fear, because the best news coming out of Arizona is that the Coyotes will be wearing their Kachina jerseys when they are the home team.
