NHL News and Notes from Monday, February 10th, 2020

 

News:

  • The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed defenseman Seth Jones on Injured Reserved with an ankle injury that will keep him out indefinitely.

 

  • The Edmonton Oilers announced that they have signed defenseman Darnell Nurse to a two year contract extension.

 

  • The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired forward Jason Zucker from the Minnesota Wild for forward Alex Galchenyuk, defenseman Calen Addison, and a conditional 2020 1st Round Pick.
    • The condition for the draft pick is that if Pittsburgh misses the 2020 Playoffs, they will be able to swap the pick to a 2021 1st Round Pick.

Arizona Coyotes v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p EST Start Time

In Montreal the Canadiens would host the Arizona Coyotes, and in the first period Montreal would get the quick jump on the Coyotes with goals from Jake Evans and Brendan Gallagher to take the 2-0 lead. However, Derek Stepan would score to bring the Coyotes within one, and in the next two periods Taylor Hall and Jakub Chychrun would score to give the Coyotes the 3-2 comeback victory.

 

Florida Panthers v. Philadelphia Flyers – 7p EST Start Time

In Philadelphia the Flyers play host to the Florida Panthers, and after a MacKenzie Weegar Panthers tally the Flyers would score four straight as Ivan Provorov, James van Riemsdyk, Travis Sanheim, and Claude Giroux would all score to give the Flyers the 4-1 victory.

 

New York Islanders v. Washington Capitals – 7p EST Start Time

In Washington the Capitals would host the New York Islanders as Alex Ovechkin looks to reach 700 NHL goals at home before hitting the road, however, the Islanders would have something else in mind. In the first period John Carlson would score for the Capitals, but a pair of goals by Anthony Beauvillier and a tally from Devon Toews would give the Islaanders the 3-1 lead. Then in the second period both teams would trade a pair of goals as Leo Komarov and Jordan Eberle would score for the Islanders, and while Lars Eller and TJ Oshie would score for the Capitals it would not be enough as the Islanders would go on to win 5-3.

 

Tampa Bay Lightning v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 7:30p EST Start Time

A battered and bruised Columbus Blue Jackets would play host to the Tampa Bay Lightning. In the first period Nikita Kucherov would open the scoring for the Lightning, then in the second period Oliver Bjorkstrand would tie the game at one. Then in overtime Kucherov would strike again to give the Lightning the 2-1 victory.

 

Nashville Predators v. Vancouver Canucks – 10p EST Start Time

In Vancouver the Canucks would don the beautiful Black Skate jersey one more time as they host the Nashville Predators. In the first period the Canucks would get goals from Zack MacEwen, Brandon Sutter (PPG), and Jordie Benn to take the 3-0 lead. Then in the second period Elias Pettersson would strike to grow their lead to four, but the Predators would finally respond with goals from Craig Smith and Mikael Granlund to bring them within two, but a tally from JT Miller would give the Canucks their three goal lead back. Then in the third period Jake Virtanen would strike while on the powerplay to give the Canucks the 6-2 victory.

 

Calgary Flames v. San Jose Sharks – 10:30p EST Start Time

In San Jose the Sharks would take on the Calgary Flames, and in the first period the Flames would overtake the Sharks with goals from Milan Lucic, Tobias Reider, and Zac Rinaldo to take the 3-0 lead, but before the end of the period Erik Karlsson would strike for the Sharks. Then in the second period Brent Burns would strike on the powerplay to bring the Sharks within one, but a tally by Mark Jankowski would give the Flames the two goal lead back. Then in the third period Matthew Tkachuk and Mikael Backlund would both strike on the powerplay to give the Flames the 6-2 victory.
