Welcome to the TXHT NWHL Weekend Recap for the Weekend of Saturday, January 18th through Monday, January 20th, 2020, plus news coming out of the weekend.


Saturday, January 18th, 2020

Game #1 – Connecticut Whale v. Minnesota Whitecaps

  • For Hockey Day in Minnesota the Whitecaps would play host to the Connecticut Whale. The Whitecaps would steamroll the Whale as they would get a pair of goals from Allie Thunstrom and Amanda Boulier, and goals from Jonna Curtis and Meaghan Pezon to secure the 6-1 victory. Emma Vlasic would score the lone goal for the Whale.


Sunday, January 19th, 2020

Game #1 – Connecticut Whale v. Minnesota Whitecaps

  • In the second and final game of their weekend series, the Whitecaps would blank the Whale to sweep the series. Allie Thunstrom would score a pair of goals for the second consecutive game, and Haylea Schmid, Jonna Curtis, Meaghan Pezon, Nicole Schammel, and Lauren Barnes would also score to secure the 7-0 victory.


Monday, January 20th, 2020

Game #1 – Metropolitan Riveters v. Boston Pride

  • For an early afternoon matinee on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Boston Pride would host the Metropolitan Riveters. In the first period the Pride would take the 2-0 lead with goals from Lexi Bender and Tori Sullivan, but Kate Leary would score with 31 seconds left in the period to cut the Pride’s lead to one. Then in the second period Brooke Avery would score for the Riveters to tie the game at two. Then in the third period McKenna Brand would retake the lead for the Pride, but Tatiana Shatalova would score to tie the game back up for the Riveters. However, the Pride would not let the Riveters storm back for the victory as they would get goals from Mallory Souliotis and Christina Putigna to secure the 5-3 victory.

News and Notes

  • The NWHL has unveiled the 2020 All Star Game jerseys that will be worn by Team Packer and Team Dempsey.



Player of the Week

  • Defenders Amanda Boulier (MIN) and Mallory Souliotis (BOS) have been named the Co-Players of the Week. Souliotis would score the game winner for the Pride on Monday, and Boulier would record a six point weekend against the Whale for the Whitecaps.
