Detroit Red Wings v. Colorado Avalanche – 3p EST Start Time
In Colorado for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day afternoon matinee the Colorado Avalanche would host the Detroit Red Wings. In the first period the Wings would strike first with a Tyler Bertuzzi tally. Then in the second period Nazem Kadri (PPG) and Nathan MacKinnon would score to give the Avalanche the 2-1 lead. In the third period Dylan Larkin and Givani Smith would score for the Wings, but both Kadri and MacKinnon would both score their second of the game, and goals from Matt Nieto and Ryan Graves would give the Avalanche the 6-3 victory.
Florida Panthers v. Minnesota Wild – 8p EST Start Time
In Minnesota the Wild would play host to the Florida Panthers. In the first period Keith Yandle would strike first for the Panthers, but on the powerplay with 17 seconds left in the period Jared Spurgeon would score to tie the game at one. Then in the second period the Panthers would retake the lead with an Aleksander Barkov tally, but Luke Kunin would score shorthanded to tie the game back up at two. Then in the third period Zach Parise and Kunin would score for the Wild, but goals from Evgenii Dadonov and Vincent Trocheck would tie the game at four, but a goal from Noel Acciari with six seconds left in regulation would give the Panthers the 5-4 victory.
