Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another edition of TXHT Card Share as we take a look at the most recent Upper Deck release with the 2019-20 Upper Deck Series 1 set.
Like every year for the UD Series, Series 1 consists of the standard 250 card base set which consists of 200 common base cards along with 50 Young Guns rookie cards. This is also the first set of 2019-20 to feature all players with their current teams. For the 200 base cards they do have parallels which include Clear Cut (1:72 packs), Exclusives (#/100), and High Gloss (#/10). Also according to Cardboardconnection.com, there are Base Photo Variatians of specific players in the set.
Also as expected, for the Rookies players like Kaapo Kakko will be added in UD Series 2 early 2020, but we do get players like Jack Hughes, Adam Fox (NYR), Martin Fehervary (WAS, Quinn Hughes (VAN), and many more for the first half of the NHL rookie class.
UD Series has it’s fair share of inserts including the returning Canvas and Portraits sets. Canvas features 90 cards for the base set and 30 cards for the Young Guns set, which interestingly does have Kaapo Kakko in the set, but not Jack Hughes. As for Portraits, they changed it up a bit to have a dual image within the portrait of the player, which is refreshing, and consists of 50 cards for the set.
Also returning this season to UD Series 1 is the Game Jersey set which consists of 100 cards for the set. This season the major change to the overall look of the card is that the piece of the jersey is placed under a cut out of the Stanley Cup on the card. It’s a nice touch from the typical square or circle cut that is way too common.
Other Insert sets that UD Series 1 also brings is Pure Energy, 30 Years of Upper Deck, Shooting Stars, Clear Cut, and Signature Sensations. Also according to the checklist posted on Cardboardconnection.com, there are other additional sub sets that are part of the UD Series 1 set.
Overall the UD Series set is always worth the grab for hockey card collectors. Getting Series 1 now (released in November), and Series 2 finishing the set in early 2020 (slated for February) it is a definite buy and build.
