Happy Holidays Whale fans! I hope y’all have a great time and stay safe out there! Connecticut skated again against the defending champion Minnesota Whitecaps, in their second game this weekend.
Unlike yesterdays game, where all the scoring happened in the third period. Today, all the scoring would happen in the first. The Minnesota Whitecaps would take an early lead, the goal coming from Allie Thunstrom. It would be her fourth goal of the weekend, and her tenth goal of the season, which leads the team. Assist on the play came from Audra Richards, her second assist on the weekend, giving her 4 assists against the Whale this season. 12 minutes later, the Whale would tie the game up. The goal came from their rookie forward Emma Vlasic. It would be her team leading fifth goal of the season. The assist came from Kayla Meneghin, her third of the season. However, three minutes later, Minnesota would regain the lead. Haylea Schmid would score, it would be her second goal of the season. The assist on the play came from Nicole Schammel.
Connecticut rallied well and mounted a furious comeback, however Amanda Leveille had all the answers for each Whale shot.
Both goalies played well, as Leveille faced 33 shots and made 32 saves, and Sonjia Shelly faced 44 shots and made 42 saves.
The next set of games Connecticut plays will be at home against the undefeated Boston Pride. The first game will be on Saturday December 28th at 330p and Sunday December 29th at 130p.
