Welcome to the TXHT NWHL Weekend Recap for the Weekend of Saturday, November 23rd and Sunday, November 24th, 2019, plus news coming out of the weekend.


Saturday, November 23rd, 2019

Game #1 – Connecticut Whale v. Boston Pride

  • In the first game of the weekend, and the only one for the Boston Pride and Connecticut Whale, it would be the Pride dominating the Whale throughout the game. In the first period the Pride would outshoot the Whale 20-9 and would get goals from Mary Parker and Lexi Bender. Then in the second period Parker would get her second of the game while shorthanded to make it 3-0. In the third period the Pride would erupt for five goals as Jillian Dempsey and McKenna Brand would both score while Lexie Laing would score back to back goals, and then Parker would finish off the game with a powerplay goal to cap off the hat trick as the Pride would defeat the Whale 8-0.


Game #2 – Minnesota Whitecaps v. Buffalo Beauts

  • In Buffalo the Minnesota Whitecaps and the Beauts would play the first game of their weekend back to back as both teams look to climb in the standings. In the first game on Saturday night the Whitecaps would take a commanding four goal lead with goals from Lauren Barnes, Meghan Lorence, and a pair of goals from Nicole Schammel (EVS and PPG) to take the commanding 4-0 lead, but the Beauts would strike late in the first with a Megan Delay tally to cut the deficit to three. In the second period Taylor Accursi would score on the powerplay, and then she would strike again in the third period to cut the Whitecaps lead to one. However, Meghan Lorence would score her second of the game while on the powerplay to give the Whitecaps the 5-3 victory.


Sunday, November 24th, 2019

Game #1 – Minnesota Whitecaps v. Buffalo Beauts

  • For the second game of the back to back in Buffalo the Whitecaps would get the jump on the Beauts as Allie Thunstrom would strike in the first period to take the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period while on the powerplay Thunstrom would strike for her second of the game, and in the third period the Whitecaps would get their third straight goal as Jonna Curtis would score to make it 3-0. However, the Beauts would respond with four straight goals as Taylor Accursi would net the hat trick, and Erin Gehen would tally to give the Buffalo Beauts the 4-3 victory to split the weekends series.


News and Notes

  • NWHL Founder and Commissioner Dani Rylan was named to the Fast Company Impact Council.


Player of the Week

  • The NWHL has announced that Buffalo Beauts forward Taylor Accursi has named the VEDA Player of the Week for her five goal weekend. Accursi would tally two goals on Saturday and three goals on Sunday, both against Minnesota, to lead the Beauts to a 1-1-0 weekend.
