2021-22 Preview

After coming off another abysmal season, the Ottawa Senators did some minor retooling on their defense, but offensively took a massive step back. On defense the Senators added Nick Holden and Michael Del Zotto, and both players will bring needed depth and experience to the Ottawa blue line. Thomas Chabot and Nikita Zaitsev will continue to anchor their top pair while Artem Zub and Erik Brannstrom will look to continue to develop their overall games.

In between the pipes, Matt Murray is still the guy, and he will definitely need a bounce back year this season. Never truly sold on Murray as a starting goalie, but this will definitely be a season he needs to prove himself as such. Anton Forsberg is back as the backup goalie to Murray, and to see Forsberg start to come into his own would be a nice bonus for Ottawa.

On offense the Senators definitely need some major help down the middle. Losing Artme Anisimov and Derek Stepan hurt them, and while it looks like Shane Pinto will plug into the second center spot, he will be truly entering his rookie season this year and will go through a lot of growing pains this season. That’s both good, but also potentially very bad for the Senators and Pinto. Only time will tell. Josh Norris is going to look to develop into a true number one center this season, and if last season was any indication, I like where he is going and the sky is the limit for him.

Projected Lineup

Brady Tkachuk — Josh Norris — Drake Batherson

Tim Stützle — Shane Pinto — Josh Brown

Nick Paul — Logan Brown — Colin White

Alex Formenton — Chris Tierney — Austin Watson

Thomas Chabot — Nikita Zaitsev

Michael Del Zotto — Artem Zub
