Russo Returns to the Rivs

Today in the National Women’s Hockey League the Metropolitan Riveters announced the return of a former Isobel Cup Champion and All-Star.

Russo Returns to the Rivs

  • After taking a season away from the NWHL, forward Rebecca Russo returns for her fourth season both with the Riveters and in the NWHL.
  • Russo, a member of the 2018 Isobel Cup Champion Riveters, has recorded 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points in 50 regular season games.
  • Russo has been named an NWHL All-Star all three seasons she’s been in the league.

Whitecaps Sign Rowe

Today in the National Women’s Hockey League the Minnesota Whitecaps bolstered their defense for the upcoming season.

Whitecaps Sign Rowe

  • The Whitecaps signed defender Maddie Rowe for the 2020-21 season.
    • Rowe, who was selected by the Whitecaps in the NWHL Draft back in April, is a 2019 NCAA Champion with the Wisconsin Badgers.
    • Rowe played 152 games for the University of Wisconsin from 2016 to 2020.
    • Before the pandemic ended the 2019-20 season, Rowelead the Badgers to the WCHA regular season title.

Whitecaps Sign Draft Pick

News coming from Minnesota today, as the Whitecaps sign one of their 2020 NWHL draft picks, forward Haley Mack.

Here is what was written on draft day:

5 (23) – Minnesota – F Haley Mack, Bemidji State University

Haley Mack is from East Grand Forks, Minnesota. She played her college hockey at Bemidji State University, where she played for 4 years. In her 4 years, she scored 38 goals and added 39 assists for 77 points.

The rookie joins up with the team that already boasts incredible forward talent.

NWHL News – Whitecaps Re-Sign Trio

Today in the National Women’s Hockey League the Minnesota Whitecaps announced that they have re-signed a trio of players for the 2020-21 season.

Morse Back Between the Pipes

  • Goaltender Allie Morse returns for her second season in the NWHL, and second with the Whitecaps. In her rookie season in Minnesota Morse would register a 2.01 GAA, and a 1-0-0 record as she was the primary backup to Amanda Leveille.

Pezon and Lorence Return with One-Two Punch

  • Meaghan Pezon returns for her third season with the Whitecaps, and is coming off a successful sophmore campaign where she recorded eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points.
    • Pezon would also have a plus/minus rating of +18, and would score two game winning goals for the Whitecaps.
    • Pezon is also a member of the 2018-19 Isobel Cup Champion Whitecaps.

  • After a successful rookie season in the NWHL, Meghan Lorence returns for her second season with the Whitecaps.
    • In 24 regular season games played Lorence would record 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points.
    • Lorence would also record 80 shots on goal, and 14 penalty minutes.

Richards Returns

News coming out of Minnesota today as Audra Richards will be returning to the team for her second season with the team.

In 24 games she played for the Whitecaps, she set career highs in the NWHL by scoring 9 goals and 11 assists for 20 points. She ranked 5th on the team in goals, 7th on the team in assists, and 7th on the team in total points.

She is a very valuable contributor on a very high octane Whitecaps forward group.

Whale Announce New GM

Some huge news from Danbury, CT today, as the Whale are set to announce a new GM for the team for Season 6.

Amy Scheer is taking over the GM duties for the Connecticut Whale. She will be succeeding Bray Ketchum, who will step into a new role as a kindergarten teacher.

Buie Takes Her Talents To Minnesota

Some huge news coming out of Minnesota today. The Whitecaps sign Original NWHLer and Minnesota native, Corinne Buie.

Buie is the last of the Original Eight NWHLers to sign for a team this off-season.

Coming into Season 6, this will be Buie’s third team in the NWHL. During her 5 years, she had previously played for the Boston Pride her rookie year, and then spent the last 4 seasons with the Buffalo Beauts. In those 5 years, she was won 2 Isobel Cup Championships! (1 with Boston, and 1 with Buffalo.)

Draft Pick Signs For Whale

Some more news coming out of Danbury this week. The Connecticut Whale have signed their 5th round draft pick Maddie Bishop for Season 6.

Here is the profile on her, written on draft night:

3 (27) – Connecticut* (Acquired from Riveters) – F Maddie Bishop, Sacred Heart University

Maddie Bishop is from Wethersfield, Connecticut. She played 4 years of college hockey at Sacred Heart University. In her senior season, she was named captain of her team. In her 4 years, she scored 32 goals and added 56 assists for a total of 88 points. Which is good for 8th all time in the program’s history.

*Pick acquired from the Marina Sorokina trade.

The 13th forward that the Whale have signed this off-season will join a very impressive and re-vamped forward core that has been built.

Erin Gehen Re-Signs With Beauts

News coming out of Buffalo today, as the Beauts re-signed one of their forwards, and key contributors. 

Last season, she played in all 24 games for the Beauts. She would score 7 goals on the year and add 9 assists, giving her a total of 16 points.

Erin Gehen will be returning for her second season with the Beauts and the NWHL.

Brickner Re-Signs For Sixth Season

News coming from Danbury, CT today, as defender Jordan Brickner is returning to the Whale for a sixth season. It will be Brickner’s sixth season with Connecticut, as she is an original NWHLer.

Last season, she played 10 games for the Whale, collecting 1 goal and adding 6 assists for 7 points on the year.

Brickner is the seventh defender signed by the Whale this off-season. She will bring a lot of veteran presence on the revamped back end.
