2022-23 Preview
After a disappointing regular season and missing the playoffs last season, the Winnipeg Jets look to right the ship and make it back the big dance with aspirations of winning a Stanley Cup. The Jets have high end skill up front with players such as Mark Scheifle, Kyle Connor, Pierre Luc Dubois, Nicholaj Ehlers, Blake Wheeler and more. A youngster with a lot of potential high end skill in Cole Perfetti has a chance to crack this lineup and really help contribute. The defense was solid too with Nate Schmidt and Brendan Dillon leading the D corps. The goaltending position is top notch as well. It helps having a bonafide number one goalie and former Vezina Trophy winner in Connor Hellebuyck. However, they were missing one major ingredient which was a very solid and reliable NHL head coach after Paul Maurice left the team during the middle of the season and stepped down from his coaching duties.
Former Dallas Stars coach Rick Bowness is now the man in charge and looks to instill the same qualities his Stars team had when they made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final back in 2020. If everyone can gel well together, and buy into what the coaching staff is selling, then the Jets can get themselves back into the Stanley Cup playoffs. It wouldn’t surprise me if they are one of the wild card spots and make the playoffs.
