News

  • The NHL Department of Player Safety would levy out a series of fines for actions that took place in their respective Game 1s on Monday night.
    • All fines are the maximum allowed under the CBA. 
    • Toronto Maple Leafs forward Wayne Simmonds would be fined $2,250 for Unsportmanlike Conduct against Tampa Bay.

    • Tampa Bay Lightning forwards Corey Perry and Pat Maroon would both fined for Unsportsmanlike Conduct against Toronto.
      • Perry was fined $2,500 while Maroon was fined $2,250.

    • Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon would be fined $5,000 for cross checking St. Louis Blues forward Pavel Buchnevich.

  • NHL DoPS would also suspend Toronto forward Kyle Clifford.
    • Clifford would be suspended for one game for boarding Tampa forward Ross Colton during Game 1 on Monday night.

Game Recaps

  • Pittsburgh Penguins v. New York Rangers – 7p ET – Game 1
    • At Madison Square Garden the New York Rangers would play host to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Game One of their best of seven first round series, and in the first period Adam Fox would score to give the Rangers the 1-0 lead. In the second period Andrew Copp would score to grow the Rangers lead to two, but Jake Guentzel would score a pair of goals to tie the game at two for the Pens. Chris Kreider would strike while shorthanded for the Rangers, but Bryan Rust would score on the powerplay to tie the game at three for the Pens. After a scoreless third period this game would go to overtime, but the first and second overtime periods would not find us a winner so triple overtime would be required. In the third overtime Evgeni Malkin would strike to give the Penguins the 4-3 victory over the Rangers.

  • Washington Capitals v. Florida Panthers – 730p ET – Game 1
    • In Florida the Panthers would host the Washington Capitals for Game One, and in the first period Tom Wilson would score on the powerplay to give the Caps the 1-0 lead, but a late tally from Sam Bennett would score to tie the game at one for the Panthers. In the second period Claude Giroux would score to give the Panthers the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period Evgeny Kuznetsov, TJ Oshie, and Lars Eller would score to give the Capitals the 4-2 comeback victory over the Panthers to take Game One.

  • Nashville Predators v. Colorado Avalanche – 930p ET – Game 1
    • In Colorado for Game One of their First Round series the Avalanche would play host to the Nashville Predators, and in the first period Nathan MacKinnon, Devon Toews, Andrew Cogliano, Cale Makar, and Artturi Lehkonen would score to give the Avs a commanding 5-0 lead. In the second period Gabriel Landeskog would score to grow the Avs lead to six, but Matt Duchene would score for the Preds to end the Avs shutout bid. Then in the third period Duchene would net his second of the game for the Preds, but MacKinnon would net his second of the game to give the Avalanche the 7-2 victory over the Predators for the 1-0 series lead.

  • Dallas Stars v. Calgary Flames – 10p ET – Game 1
    • In Calgary the Flames would host the Dallas Stars for Game 1 of their First Round series, and Elias Lindholm would score early while on the powerplay to give the Flames the 1-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second and third period the Flames would hold on to defeat the Stars 1-0 to take Game One.
