New Jersey Devils (24-39-6 54pts) vs
New York Islanders 32-27-9 73pts)
Game Recap:
After suffering an embarrassing loss to the Florida Panthers yesterday, the New ml Jersey Devils hope to put that loss behind them and get back in the win column this afternoon against the New York Islanders. Unfortunately for the Devils, they wouldn’t get off to the start they were hoping for. Jean-Gabriel Pageau would strike twice within a span of about three minutes to give the Islanders a two goal advantage. Pageau’s first goal of the game came off a two on one where he wristed the puck through the five hole while his second goal came off a rebound shot that he put into the back of the net to beat Devils goalie Nico Daws. After the first period, the New York Islanders would lead the New Jersey Devils 2-0.
Period two was relatively quiet until about the 14:58 mark when Jean-Gabriel Pageau completed the natural hat trick after putting in the feed to the front of the net by Kyle Palmieri to make it a three goal advantage. About a little over a minute later, Jesper Boqvist finally got the Devils on the board as he tipped in a shot from Damon Severson to cut the deficit to two goals. It would be 3-1 in favor of the Islanders heading into the third period.
Tomas Tatar was able to get the game back within one for the Devils as he went top shelf about Islanders goalie Cory Schneider for his thirteenth goal of the season at the 5:32 mark. Former Devil Kyle Palmieri broke the hearts of his former fans by giving the Isles their two goal lead back as he wristed a beautiful shot over the goalie for his thirteenth goal of the season. New Jersey wasn’t done just yet. With the extra attacker, Nico Hischer scored as Dawson Mercer found Dougie Hamilton’s rebound shot and passing it to Hischier who buried the shot to make it a one goal game with a minute left to play in regulation. Unfortunately the comeback bid would come up short and the Devils would lose to the Islanders by a final score of 4-3. Next time we see the New Jersey Devils in action will be on Tuesday night to take on their Hudson River rivals in the season series finale at the Prudential Center.
