Devils Down Ducks in Shootout

New Jersey Devils (22-32-5 49pts) v.s

Anaheim Ducks (27-24-10 64pts)

Game Recap:

Closing out their four game home stand tonight, the New Jersey Devils look to end it with a win against the visiting Anaheim Ducks. It was a good start for the home team as they started off well with a 10-3 shots advantage over the Ducks. Unfortunately, the opportunities weren’t enough and gave Anaheim a chance to get on the board first as Troy Terry scored his twenty-ninth goal of the season with a wicked wrist shot from the right face off circle to beat Devils goalie Nico Daws to make it 1-0. That would be the only goal of the period as we now move onto the next one.

Tomas Tatar was able to even the score up a few minutes into period two as he received a nice pass between the defender’s skates from Jesper Boqvist and slipped a shot past Ducks goalie Anthony Stolarz for his eleventh goal of the season. That would be the only goal of the period as it would be a relatively quite one with the Devils continuing to put up shots and lead in that department this period 11-9. After two periods, the score would be tied 1-1.

Period three was very even with some chances traded between the Devils and Ducks. The pace of play and intensity turned up even more the last ten minutes but it resulted with no goals and we would move onto overtime. Even with an extra period, there would still be no score and a shootout would be necessary. In the skills competition, New Jersey was able to get shootout goals from Tomas Tatar and Jesper Bratt while goalie Nico Daws was able to shut the door on the Ducks shooters in Trevor Zegras and Troy Terry to earn the victory by a final score of 2-1. It was a successful home stand for the Devils as they went 3-1-0 while at the Prudential Center. Next time we see the Devils in game action is on Tuesday night as they head out west to play the Vancouver Canucks in the beginning of a western Canada road trip.
