New Jersey Devils (10-12-5 25pts) @
Philadelphia Flyers (11-12-4 26pts)
Game Recap:
Unfortunately, tonight was a game that the New Jersey Devils wish could’ve been better as they took on the Philadelphia Flyers and suffered a crushing and humiliating defeat. Things started off well and even yet started to go downhill towards the midway and later point of the first period. Travis Sanheim opened up the scoring for his first goal of the season as he did a great toe drag with the puck before firing it past Devils goalie Mackenzie Blackwood to make it 1-0. Late in the first period, Cam Atkinson scored his tenth of the season as he slipped the puck in the back of the net thanks to a nice pass by Rasmus Ristolainen to the far post where he was to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
Flyers defenseman Justin Braun at the 6:07 mark scored his second of the season to make it 3-0. Finally the Devils got on the scoreboard at the 6:43 mark thanks to PK Subban who scored his second goal of the season. Subban fired a shot from the point that trickled past goalie Carter Hart to cut the deficit to 3-1. Unfortunately for New Jersey, that would be the only goal they would score in this game. Philadelphia struck twice more later on in the second period as Cam Atkinson scored his second of the game (11th of the season) and short-handed, and Oscar Lindblom scored his second goal of the season. The Devils would trail the Flyers 5-1 after two periods.
Period three saw the Devils pull Mackenzie Blackwood in favor of rookie Akira Schmid to start things out. The Flyers kept the stifling type of defense they had throughout the game and even added one final goal thanks to Cam Atkinson, who completed the hat trick at the 7:09 mark to make it 6-1 in favor of the Flyers. That would be the final score as the Devils would lose their third straight game in a row. New Jersey is back in action on Thursday night at home versus the Vegas Golden Knights.
