Whitecaps v. Pride – A One Goal Game

Minnesota Whitecaps (0-1-0 0pts) v. Boston Pride (1-0-0 3pts)

Game Recap:

Back at Warrior Arena in Boston the Pride would take on the Minnesota Whitecaps to close out their season opening series against their Isobel Cup adversaries. In the first period things would kick off with a bang as Kaleigh Fratkin would get called for interference 11 seconds into the game to give the Whitecaps the first powerplay of the game. They would not be able to capitalize on it and then Lexie Laing would be called for Tripping to give the Pride their first powerplay. After the powerplay would expire Laing would get the best scoring opportunity, but the puck would go past her as she would try to get it into a wide open net. Then the Whitecaps and Pride would trade penalties that would see seconds of powerplay time and some four on four action. The second half of the period would see both teams more feeling each other out which is a far departure from the night before where Boston was more dominant in the first period. No goals would be scored as both teams went into the first intermission.

In the second period the Pride would get themselves into penalty trouble early in the period, but it would be McKenna Brand striking while shorthanded to give the Pride the 1-0 lead. On the goal, it would be Brand’s second of the season, and Kaleigh Fratkin would have an assist on the goal giving her her 70th career NWHL/PHF point. As the period would go on both teams would continue to play a tight defensive game. Allie Thunstrom would get called for hooking late in the period, but the Pride would be unable to strike to on the powerplay so this game would see the Pride take the 1-0 lead into the second intermission.

Then in the third period it would be a very quiet period for both teams. Late in the period both teams would trade powerplay opportunities, but neither the Whitecaps or Pride could capitalize on them thus giving the Pride the 1-0 victory over the Whitecaps.
