NHL Stars of the Week – Scoring Their Way to the Top

Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of October 12th through 17th.

First Stars – Anze Kopitar (C – LA)

  • Anze Kopitar would record four goals and three assists in two games played for the Los Angeles Kings, and would help the Kings split their pair of contests. On Oct. 14th Kopitar would record his fifth career hat trick along with two assists to record the most points (5) by a King on opening night in franchise history in their 6-2 victory over Vegas. Then Kopitar would record a goal and an assist on Oct. 16th in a 3-2 loss to Minnesota.

Second Star – Alex Ovechkin (LW – WAS)

  • Alex Ovechkin would open up the 2021-22 campaign with three goals and two assists for five points in two games played for the Washington Capitals. Ovechkin would open up the season with two goals and two assists in a 5-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Oct. 13th. Ovechkin’s second goal of the game would mark his 731st career NHL goal moving him into sole possession of fifth place on the all time NHL goals list, and passing Marcel Dionne. Then on Oct. 16th, Ovechkin would score the Capitals lone goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Tampa Bay.

Third Star – Steven Stamkos (C – TB)

  • In three games played, Steven Stamkos would score three goals and four assists for seven points for the Tampa Bay Lightning. On opening night Stamkos would notch two assists in a 6-2 loss to Pittsburgh, and then on Oct. 14th against Detroit he would come alive with two goals and an assist in a 7-6 overtime victory. Then on Oct. 16th Stamkos would have an assist and the overtime winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Washington.
