2021-22 Preview

For the back-to-back defending Stanley Cup Champions, they are looking to be the first team to win three straight Stanley Cups since the New York Islanders did so from 1980-1983.

After losing Tyler Johnson and Barclay Goodrow to trades, and Yanni Gourde to Seattle in the Expansion draft, the Lightning were able to clear about $9 million in salary. All three were good pieces but the core piece lost was Gourde to Seattle.

Tampa Bay should have another excellent season and with Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos coming off injuries, even with Kucherov playing in the postseason, expect a full season out of both.

The addition of Corey Perry does help but the Lightning need forward depth with the losses of Goodrow, Gourde, Coleman and Johnson if the group of prospects can’t replicate the work of the four players mentioned above.

2021-22 Prediction: 1st in Atlantic Division
