2021-22 Preview
It’s a new era for the Columbus Blue Jackets as they move on from head coach John Tortorella and promote Brad Larsen to the head coaching position. Key question under Larsen will be how the Blue Jackets will respond after having an abysmal season that saw them in last place of their division after making the playoffs the last several seasons.
Originally in goal the Jackets were looking to make some moves, but with the unfortunate passing of Matiss Kivlenieks during the offseason it made the Jackets change their plans and decide to stick with both Joonas Korpisalo and Elvis Merzlikins to start the 2021-22 season. Both are capable netminders, and do make for a great duo for the Jackets.
On offense Patrik Laine will play in his first full season with the Jackets, and will be looking to help generate the offense he’s always been projected to bring. Having Jakub Voracek on his line will give Laine and the Jackets another offensive option. For the rest of the forwards, outside of Jack Roslovic, the Jackets are going to need to step up to add secondary scoring.
On defense the loss of Seth Jones will be felt, and leaves Zach Werenski as their lone top defender. This will probably be the biggest weakness for the Jackets and will need to be addressed at some point.
