Danbury, CT- The Connecticut Whale announced that defender Tori Howran has been signed to a NWHL contract and will rejoin The Pod for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

“I’m truly thankful to be returning to Connecticut for Season 7,” said Howran on her return. “I enjoyed playing my rookie season with the Whale, and I can’t wait to get back to Connecticut to get things started.”

The 23-year-old joined the Whale in Lake Placid for her rookie season and made an impact on the team right away. The seventh overall pick in the 2020 NWHL Draft averaged over 23 minutes a game, according to InStat Hockey, which was second only to Whale captain Shannon Doyle. She picked up her first NWHL goal and two assists in just three games played.

“Tori came in last season and played big minutes for us right away,” said Connecticut assistant general manager and assistant coach Laura Brennan. “She is a smart defender who is able to make fast transitions and get pucks to the net. We are excited to see what she can do during a full season.”

Prior to her time in the NWHL, the Bancroft, Ontario native won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2015-16 U18 World Junior Championship.

She also played four seasons at the University of New Hampshire where she racked up 55 points (7G, 48A) in 140 games played and was named captain during her senior season with the Wildcats.

Howran becomes the team’s seventh player announced under contract for the 2021-22 campaign and third defender joining veteran Hanna Beattie and newcomer Allie Munroe.
