Let’s Get Ready To Rumble

It’s all set! After a 56 game regular season and many grueling playoff series, we are now down to two teams left.

East:

Out of the East, we find the Tampa Bay Lightning. They are looking to repeat as champions, as they won the 2020 Stanley Cup, defeating the Dallas Stars in 6 games. How did they get there:

After 56 games of the regular season, the Lightning finished third in the Central Division with a 36-17-3 record for 75 points on the year. They would go on to face the Florida Panthers in the first round in the first ever all-Florida series.

In the second round, the Lightning would then go on to face the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes had finished first in the Central Division.

In the semifinals, the Lightning would faceoff against the New York Islanders. Last season, they faced the Islanders and won that series to head to the 2020 Stanley Cup Finals.

Game 4: Islanders won 3-2

The Lightning would win the Prince of Wales trophy for the fourth time in the team’s history, and their second in a row.

West:

Out of the West, we find the Montreal Canadiens. The last time the Canadiens were in the Stanley Cup finals, it was 1993 and they defeated the Wayne Gretzky led Los Angeles Kings in 5 games. How did they get there:

After a 56 game regular season, the Canadiens finished fourth in the North Division with a record of 24-21-11 for 59 points. In the first round, Montreal would face off against their rivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs, who finished atop of the North Division.

Game 3: Maple Leafs won 2-1
Game 4: Maple Leafs won 4-0

The Canadiens would go on to battle the Winnipeg Jets, who had plenty of rest as they had swept the Edmonton Oilers in the first round.

After the sweep, in the semifinials, Montreal would square off against the Vegas Golden Knights for the first time ever.

Game 5: Canadiens won 4-1

The Canadiens would win the Clarence Campbell trophy, (Which is usually presented to the Western Conference Champions.) It’s the first time in Montreal’s long and rich history that they have won that trophy.

Last Time They Met:

The Montreal Canadiens will square off against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2021 Stanley Cup Finals. These two teams have faced each other before, the last time being in 2015. In the second round of the 2015 playoffs, the Lightning would win the series 4-2.
