New York Islanders v. Tampa Bay Lightning – Game 1
Game Recap:
Down in Tampa Bay the Lightning and New York Islanders would face off for game one of their Stanley Cup Semifinals series, and it would also be the second year in a row the two teams would face off in the third round of the playoffs. In the first period Matt Martin would try to mix things up with Barclay Goodrow, and they would both take unsportsmanlike conduct penalties eight seconds into the game. After the minors were over the Isles would get the first powerplay of the game, but the Bolts would shut them down, and then again later in the period.
Come the second period the game would still be scoreless until Mathew Barzal would score for the Islanders while on a break into the Bolts zone. Barzal moments later would then give the Isles another powerplay opportunity, but the Bolts would be up to the task, and then earn a powerplay of their own. To start the third period the Bolts would continue their powerplay, but to no success. Ryan Pulock would unleash a bomb from the point to give the Isles the 2-0 lead. Late in regulation Brock Nelson would take a high sticking penalty to give Tampa would get their second powerplay opportunity, and they would capitalize as Brayden Point would score for the Lightning. However, time would run out and the Islanders would take game one 2-1 for the early series lead.
