NHL Stars of the Week – Holy Greiss!

Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of April 26th through May 2nd.

First Stars – Thomas Greiss (G – DET) and Joanne MacDonald (St. Joseph Mercy Health System)

  • Greiss would stop all 66 shots he would face in 130 minutes of action for the week for a 1-01 record for the Red Wings. Greiss would record two shutouts, the first in a 1-0 shootout loss against Columbus on April 27th, and then a 1-0 shootout victory over Tampa Bay on May 1st.

Second Star – Connor McDavid (C – EDM)

  • McDavid would lead the League with four goals and six assists for 10 points in 4 games played for the Oilers. In a pair of wins over the Jets, McDavid would record 3 goals and an assist in a 6-1 victory on April 26th and three assists in a 3-1 victory on April 28th. Then against the Flames, he would be held scoreless in a 3-1 loss on April 29th, but would score a goal and two assists in a 4-1 victory on May 1st to close out the week.

Third Star – Semyon Varlamov (G – NYI)

  • Varlamov would turn aside all 53 shots faced for the week to record two shutouts in a 2-0-0 week for him with the Islanders. Both shutouts would come against the New York Rangers in a 4-0 victory on April 29th, and a 3-0 win on May 1st.
