NHL News from Wednesday, April 7th, 2021


  • The New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders would make a major trade.
    • The Islanders would acquire forwards Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac.
      • The Devils will be retaining 50% of both players salaries.
    • The Devils would acquire forwards AJ Greer and Mason Jobst.
      • The Devils also acquired a 2021 1st Round Pick and a conditional 2022 4th Round Pick.
      • Condition on the 4th Round Pick is that if the Islander make the Stanley Cup Final the 4th will become a 3rd Round Pick in 2022 or 2023.
        • The Islanders have the option on which year the 3rd Round Pick will be if they make the Final this year.

Game Recaps

  • Edmonton Oilers v. Ottawa Senators – 5p ET
    • In a Wednesday early evening matinee, the Ottawa Senators would host the Edmonton Oilers. In the first period Leon Draisaitl would strike on the powerplay to give the Oilers the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Josh Norris would tie the game for the Sens, but Draisaitl’s second of the game would retake the lead for the Oilers. In the third period Connor Brown would score for the Sens to tie the game at two, but Connor McDavid would score his 23rd of the season, and Draisaitl would complete the hat trick to give the Oilers the 4-2 victory.

  • Montreal Canadiens v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 7:30p ET
    • In Toronto the Maple Leafs would host the Montreal Canadiens, and in the first period Auston Matthews would strike 54 seconds into the game for his 24th of the season to give the Leafs the lead, but a little over a minute later Corey Perry would strike to tie the game at one for the Habs. After a scoreless second period TJ Brodie and Zach Hyman would tally to give the Leafs the 3-1 lead. Perry would net his second of the game for the Habs, but the Leafs would hold on for the 3-2 victory.

  • Vegas Golden Knights v. St. Louis Blues – 9p ET
    • In St. Louis the Vegas Golden Knights would come to town to take on the Blues, and in the first period Vladimir Tarasenko and Sammy Blais would both score to give the Blues the 2-0 lead. After a scoreless second, Jake Walman nets his first of the year as St. Louis takes the commanding 3-0 lead. Vegas finally gets on the board when Nicolas Roy nets his second of the year but the Blues get the 3-1 win over the Golden Knights.

  • Colorado Avalanche v. Minnesota Wild – 9p ET
    • In Minnesota the Wild would host the Colorado Avalanche, and in the first period Kirill Kaprizov, Luke Johnson, and Kevin Fiala would strike for the Wild to take a commanding 3-0 lead. In the second, Nathan MacKinnon gets the Avs on the board with his 15th on the season. The Wild takes the three goal lead once more when Ryan Hartman nets his sixth of the season. Colorado comes within two again when Andre Burakovsky nets his 11th of the season and then Colorado comes within a goal when Mikko Rantanen nets his 22nd of the season. Kaprizov nets his 16th of the season to give the Wild the 5-3 lead. In the third, Kevin Fiala and Joel Eriksson Ek net goals, with Fiala netting two, to give Minnesota the 8-3 lead and win over the Avalanche.

  • Arizona Coyotes v. Los Angeles Kings – 10p ET
    • In the City of Angels the Coyotes look to down the Kings and in the first period Arizona gets a pair of goals when Lawson Crouse and Ilya Lyubushkin score to make it a 2-0 Arizona lead. Los Angeles gets on the board when Jaret Anderson-Dolan nets his fifth goal. In the second, Johan Larsson nets his sixth goal as the Coyotes take the 3-1 lead. In the third, the Kings get three goals when Adrian Kempe, Jeff Carter, and Carl Grundstrom all score to give the Kings the comeback win as they down the Coyotes 4-3.
