NHL Stars of the Week – Stone’s Playmaking Earns Top Honors

Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of March 1st through 7th.

First Stars – Mark Stone (RW – VGK) and Dr. Claudia Mejia (Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada)

  • Stone would lead the League with 8 assists and 10 points in four games played for the Golden Knights. On March 1st, Stone would record a franchise high 5 assists in a 5-4 overtime victory over Minnesota, and then on March 3rd against the Wild he would record a goal and an assist in a 5-1 victory. On March 5th against San Jose Stone would register a two assist game in another 5-4 overtime victory, and to close the week Stone would with the game winning goal in a 4-0 victory over the Sharks on March 6th.

Second Star – Thatcher Demko (G – VAN)

  • Demko would go 3-0-0 with an outstanding 1.00 GAA and a .969 save percentage. Demko would also record a shutout to lead the Canucks to three wins for the week. Demko would start the week with his first career NHL regular season shutout with a 27 save performance against the Jets on March 1st. Then on March 4th (31 saves) and March 6th (37 saves) against Toronto in 3-1 and 4-2 victories to close out the week.

Third Star – Martin Necas (C – CAR)

  • Martin Necas would record 2 goal and 5 assists for 7 points in four games played for the Hurricanes. He would record a goal and two assists in a 3-2 overtime victory over Florida on March 1st, then on March 2nd against Nashville Necas would record an assist in a 4-2 victory. March 4th would see Necas record a goal and assist in a 5-2 victory over Detroit, and to close out the week he would have an assist against the Panthers in a 4-2 victory.
