Boston Pride (0-0-0 0pts) v. Minnesota Whitecaps (0-0-0 0pts)
Game Recap:
In what would’ve been a rematch of the 2020 Isobel Cup Championship game, the Minnesota Whitecaps and the Boston Pride finally faceoff as they both kick start their 2020-21 NWHL seasons. Going into the first period both teams would trade chances, but the Whitecaps would get themselves into penalty trouble. While the Pride would not strike on their first two powerplay opportunities, they would get on the board first as Christina Putigna would score to give the Pride the 1-0 lead. However, a little over a minute later Jonna Curtis would score to tie the game at one for the Whitecaps. Both teams would trade powerplay opportunities to end the first period, but neither team would convert on any of their powerplay chances. Boston would outshoot Minnesota 14 to 6 in the first period.
In the second period the game would become a more tightly contested matchup as both teams would trade a near equal amount of shots with the Pride getting a slight advantage with 12 shots to the Whitecaps 11. The Pride would receive two more powerplay chances, but the Whitecaps would kill them off to go a perfect 5 for 5 so far in the game so far, and with killing those penalties also comes the momentum as Winny Brodt Brown would score an ugly goal against Lovisa Selander to give the Whitecaps the 2-1 lead over the Pride.
And then in the third period it would be a tightly contested period as both the Whitecaps and the Pride looked to get the pick up the victory. The Pride would put themselves into penalty trouble, but their penalty kill would go a perfect 4 for 4 for the game. The Pride would also out shoot the Whitecaps 11 to 2 in the final frame, but Amanda Leveille would be a brick wall in net to secure the 2-1 victory for the Whitecaps. However, going into their respective next games tomorrow, both teams will need to get their powerplay units firing as both teams went a combined 0 for 10 in today’s game.
