Announcement from the New Jersey Devils:
Obviously with the season on the cusp of starting on January 13th, this was a deal the Devils had to get done before training camp opens up. Getting Blackwood’s deal done was very important as he is the future in between the pipes for the New Jersey Devils. He has shown great capabilities of being the number one goalie since he was drafted in the second round back in 2015. The contract is reasonable and will keep pushing him to be great so eventually he’ll get paid like an elite goalie in the National Hockey League. Overall, I’m very pleased the Devils were able to get this done and re-sign MacKenzie Blackwood as he definitely has the potential to be an elite goalie in this league. New Jersey has one more restricted agent left to sign in winger Jesper Brett. I’m sure that deal will get completed within the next week before training camp opens up.
