Lundqvist Officially a Capital

The Washington Capitals made their first splash of free agency as they signed goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to pair up with sophomore goaltender Ilya Samsonov.

With Braden Holtby signing with the Vancouver Canucks in free agency, the Capitals needed to address the need in net. Lundqvist will serve that need as he has stated that he still has that fire to compete, and while competing for playing time with Samsonov, he will be pushing Samsonov to become a better goaltender for the Capitals.

Lundqvist’s contract is a one year deal, and is worth $1.5 million which is about right for Lundqvist who is still making $3 million this season after being bought out by the New York Rangers last month.

Also with the condensed schedule that the NHL will have for the 2020-21 season, having a goalie who is capable of playing big games still, while also mentoring the future through their competition, will be good for the Washington Capitals.
