Here are today’s headlines for Monday, October 5th, 2020.

Signings Galore

  • The Toronto Maple Leafs re-signed forward Jason Spezza to a one year contract worth the League minimum of $700k.

  • The Philadelphia Flyers announced they have re-signed defenseman Justin Braun to a two year contract with an AAV of $1.8 million.

  • The New York Islanders re-signed forward Sebastian Aho (the other one) to a two year deal.

  • The Minnesota Wild re-signed defenseman Carson Soucy to a three year contract.

  • The Wild also re-signed forward Nico Sturm to a two year deal.

  • The Ottawa Senators have signed defenseman Josh Brown to a two year contract.

  • The Buffalo Sabres signed forward Tage Thompson to a three year contract with an AAV of $1.4 million.

 

Flames Go Full Retro!

  • The Calgary Flames announced that they will be changing their uniforms to their retro uniforms that were worn as their alternate and Heritage Classic jerseys this past season.
    • The uniforms were originally worn when the Flames moved to Calgary from Atlanta 40 years ago.

 

Jackets Unveil 20th Logo

  • The Columbus Blue Jackets have unveiled their 20th Anniversary log that will be used for the 2020-21 season.

 

Wild and Sharks Trade

  • The Minnesota Wild and San Jose Sharks made a pair of trades together.
    • The first trade would see the Wild send forward Ryan Donato to the Sharks for a 2021 Third Round Draft Pick.

    • The second trade would see the Wild send goaltender Devan Dubnyk and a 2022 7th Round Draft Pick to San Jose for a 2022 5th Round Draft Pick.
      • The Wild will retain 50% of Dubnyk’s salary.

 

Pens Waive Johnson

  • The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that they have put defenseman Jack Johnson on unconditional waivers with the purpose of buying out his contract.

 

Qualifying Offers Being Made

  • The Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins, and New York Islanders made the following Qualifying Offers to their Restricted Free Agents.

 

Niskanen Announces Retirement

  • Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Matt Niskanen has announced that he is retiring.
    • Niskanen, 33, had one year left on his contract.
    • Niskanen played for the Dallas Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, and Flyers over a 13 year career.
    • Niskanen won the Stanley Cup with the Capitals in 2018.

 

Oilers McDavid Tests Positive

  • The Edmonton Oilers announced that forward Connor McDavid tested positive for COVID-19.
    • McDavid is experiencing mild symptoms and is currently under a voluntary self-quarantine.
