NHL News and Notes from Friday, September 11th, 2020


  • The NHL announced the new dates for the 2020 NHL Draft, and for the first day of Free Agency.
    • The 2020 Draft will take place virtually with the First Round taking place on Tuesday, October 6th at 7p ET.
      • The Second through Seventh Rounds will take place Wednesday, October 7th starting at 1130a ET.
    • Free Agency will open on Friday, October 9th at 12p ET.

  • The NHL announced that Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon as the winner of the 2019-20 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.
    • MacKinnon recorded a career low 12 penalty minutes in 69 games played.

  • The Minnesota Wild and Pittsburgh Penguins made a trade.
    • Minnesota acquired forward Nick Bjugstad.
    • Pittsburgh acquired a Conditional 2021 Draft Pick
      • The Penguins will be retaining 50% of Bjugstad’s salary during the 2020-21 season.

Game Recaps

  • Tampa Bay Lightning v. New York Islanders – 8p ET Start Time
    • Heading into Game 3 the Islanders look to avoid going down three games to none and force a Game 5 in this series against the Lightning. In the first period Cal Clutterbuck would open the scoring for the Islanders to take the 1-0 lead, but three and a half minutes later Mikhail Sergachev would score to tie the game at one. In the second period Adam Pelech and Anthony Beauvillier would both score to give the Islanders the 3-1 lead. Then in the third period the Lightning would storm back with goals from Ondrej Palat (PPG) and Tyler Johnson to tie the game at three, but the Islanders would respond with goals from Brock Nelson and Jean-Gabriel Pageau to secure the 5-3 victory, and force Game 5.
