Lightning Strikes In Double Overtime

Game 5 of the series between the Boston Bruins and the Tampa Bay Lightning took place tonight. The Lightning has a chance to close out the series and move on to the Eastern Conference Finals with a win tonight.

A quick summary of the series:

Game 1 – Boston wins 3-2

Game 2 – Tampa wins 4-3 OT

Game 3 – Tampa wins 7-1

Game 4 – Tampa wins 3-1

 

Here is how the 2 teams would line up for Game 5:

 

In the first period, both teams traded chances. Both Vasilevskiy and Halak had all of the answers. There was no scoring in the first period.

Early in the second period, the Lightning would get on the board first. The goal coming from Ondrej Palat, his fifth goal of the playoffs. Assists on the play came from Kevin Shattenkirk and Blake Coleman.

8 minutes later, the Bruins would tie the game on the power play. The goal coming from their superstar David Pastrnak. It would be his third goal of the playoffs, assists on the play coming from David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron. The period would end tied at 1 a piece.

In the third period, the Lightning would get their lead back, the goal being provided by Anthony Cirelli, his second goal of the playoffs. Assists on the play came from Victor Hedman and Brayden Point. The goal coming with about 8 minutes left in the period.

The Bruins, seemingly in desperation mode, and needing to keep their playoffs alive, would get an answer. A goal coming from David Krejci, his fourth goal of the playoffs. Assists on the play coming from the captain Zdeno Chara and Connor Clifton.

The game would need overtime to provide a winner. There was no scoring in the first overtime, as Boston pressed the play trying to force a Game 6, but Vasilevskiy would come up with all of the answers.

In the second overtime, with about 6 minutes left before potentially heading to a third overtime. The Lightning would strike and get the goal that would advance them to the Eastern Conference Finals. The goal coming from Victor Hedman, his fifth goal of the playoffs for the defensemen.  Assists on the play came from Kevin Shattenkirk and Brayden Point.

The Lightning will wait for the winner of the Islanders and Flyers series. Currently, the Islanders are up 3 games to 1.
