NHL News and Notes from Sunday, August 2nd, 2020
- The NHL Department of Player Safety has suspended Chicago Blackhawks forward Drake Caggiula for one Qualifying Round game for an Illegal Check to the Head of Edmonton Oilers forward Tyler Ennis.
- Joonas Korpisalo would record the first Playoff shutout in Columbus franchise history as the Blue Jackets defeated Toronto 2-0.
- Nazem Kadri’s game winning goal with .1 seconds left in the game marks the second time in Stanley Cup Playoffs history for the go ahead goal to be scored at the 19:59 mark of the game. The only other time for this feat to happen was back in 2009 by Jussi Jokinen for the Carolina Hurricanes.
- For the second day in a row Matt Dumba of the Minnesota Wild would make a statement during the national anthem as he would raise his fist for both the US and Canadian national anthems. The only thing that would have made this moment stronger is if his teammates would have joined him in solidarity and raised their fists with him during the anthems in unity for the movement that Dumba and the Hockey Diversity Alliance are leading the charge on in the NHL.
