With second training camp underway, the Pittsburgh Penguins look to punch their ticket to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Record: 40-23-6 86 points

5th in the Eastern Conference

The Penguins come into the Qualifying Round taking on the 12th place Montreal Canadiens, and looking to advance to the Stanley Cup Playoffs to aim for their third Stanley Cup in five years.

On offense the Penguins would be led by Evgeni Malkin with 25 goals and 49 assists for 74 points, but it would be Bryan Rust who would lead the Penguins in goals with 27 (along with 29 assists for 56 points). Both Sidney Crosby (16g, 31a, 47p in 41GP) and Jake Guentzel (20g, 23a, 43p in 39GP) would miss significant time due to injuries, but would still contribute to the team’s offense when healthy. Trade Deadline additions Patrick Marleau and Jason Zucker will be looked to add scoring depth for the playoff run.

On defense Kris Letang led all defenders with 15 goals and 29 assists for 44 points. Justin Schultz, Jack Johnson, Brian Dumoulin, and Trade Deadline addition Evan Rodrigues will be looked to shutting down the Canadiens offense.

Between the pipes head coach Mike Sullivan will have a tough decision to make as Matt Murray has to fight for his number one spot again after going 20-11-5 with a 2.87 GAA and a .899 save percentage, while Tristan Jarry will look to be the number one going into the Qualifying Round after posting a 20-12-1 record with a 2.43 GAA and a .921 save percentage.
