Stanley Cup Preview – Philadelphia Flyers

As we wrap up our team previews during second training camp, we take a look at the Philadelphia Flyers.

 

Record: 41-21-7 89 points

4th Place in the Eastern Conference

 

After starting to heat up at the right time in the season, the Flyers look to continue their rise as they aim to win their first Stanley Cup since 1975.

 

On offense the Flyers got balanced scoring from Travis Konecny (24g, 37a, 61p), Sean Couturier (22g, 37a, 59p), Jakub Voracek (12g, 44a, 56p), and Claude Giroux (21p, 32a, 53p). Offseason acquisition Kevin Hayes contributed 23 goals and 18 assists for 41 points. James van Riemsdyk will be looked to contribute offense as well after recording 19 goals and 21 assists for 40 points.

 

On the blue line Ivan Provorov led all defenders in scoring with 13 goals and 23 assists for 36 points, and was closely followed by offseason trade pickup Matt Niskanen (8g, 25a, 33p) from the Washington Capitals. The Flyers will be looking to Travis Sanheim (8g, 17a, 25p), Justin Braun (3g, 16a, 19p), and Robert Hagg (3g, 10a, 13p) to continue playing more of a defensive game while also hoping to see Shayne Gostisbehere can return to form and help guide the Flyers blue line through the playoffs.

 

Between the pipes Carter Hart will man the net for the Flyers after going 24-13-3 with a 2.42 GAA and a .914 save percentage in 40 starts. Veteran Brian Elliot will backup the younger Hart after going 16-7-4 with a 2.87 GAA and a .899 save percentage in 27 starts.
