Stanley Cup Preview – Montreal Canadiens

As second training camp is underway, we take a look at the Montreal Canadiens as they prepare for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Qualifying Round.

Record: 31-31-9 71 points

12th Place in the Eastern Conference

The Canadiens will look to do the impossible as they will try to become the first 12th seed and first Canadian team since 1993 to win the Stanley Cup as they are presented this very unique opportunity.

On offense the Canadiens will look to try to match the Penguins on the score sheet, and against a healthy one at that. Leading the way is forward Tomas Tatar who recorded 22 goals and 39 assists for 61 points, and is followed by Phillip Danault (13g, 34a, 47p), Max Domi (17g, 27a, 44p), Brendan Gallagher (22g, 21a, 43p), and Nick Suzuki (13g, 28a, 41p). However, what will the status of Domi be after they wait the 7-10 days to see if he’ll be able to play due to the pandemic.

Back on the blue line Jeff Petry (11g, 29a, 40p) and captain Shea Weber (15g, 21a, 36p) lead the way offensively for the Canadiens. Ben Chiarot and Victor Mete will be relied on to help on the back end and shut down Pittsburgh’s top guns.

Between the pipes Carey Price will be ready to rock and roll after getting an extended break before the Qualifying Round. During the 2019-20 season Price went 27-25-6 with a 2.79 GAA and a .909 save percentage in 58 games played.
