NWHL News – Whale Sign Trio *UPDATED*

Today in the NWHL the Connecticut Whale made a splash by re-signing three players for the upcoming season.


Whale Sign Trio

  • The Connecticut Whale have re-signed forward Katelynn Russ, defender Taylor Marchin, and utility player Hana Beattie.

  • Beattie, who plays as both a forward and defender, will be entering her fourth season with the Whale.
    • Beattie registered three goals and three assists in 22 regular season games last season, and registered two assists in the Isobel Cup Playoffs.
  • Marchin will be entering her third season with the Whale after having three assists in the regular season, and one in the playoffs.
    • Marchin, not known for her offensive prowess in Connecticut, is a steady, physical defender that helps clear out in front of the net.
  • Russ, who played in the final two games of the 2019-20 season with the Whale, was the breakout star of the Whale’s victory over the Buffalo Beauts in the Isobel Cup Playoffs that saw her score two goals and an assist.
    • The 2020-21 NWHL season will be Russ’ first full season in the league and with the Whale.


Curtis Re-signs in Minnesota

  • The Minnesota Whitecaps have announced that they have re-signed All Star forward Jonna Curtis for the 2020-21 season.

  • Curtis, who played 21 regular season games in 2019-20, registered 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points to rank second in assists and third in points in the NWHL.
  • Curtis will be entering her third season in the NWHL and with the Whitecaps.


Nate Oliver Named GM

  • Today the NWHL has announced all six general managers for the 2020-21 season.

  • Bray Ketchum (Connecticut), Kate Whitman Annis (Metropolitan), Karilyn Pilch (Boston), and Jack Brodt (Minnesota) all return for the 2020-21 NWHL season.
  • Mandy Cronin has signed to become the new general manager of Toronto.
    • Last season Cronin was the GM of the Buffalo Beauts.
  • Taking over the helm in Buffalo as general manager is Nate Oliver.
    • Oliver, who has contributed to TXHT in the past, is adedicated worker to the game of women’s hockey in Buffalo, and last season was the community manager for the organization.
