Pittsburgh Penguins (37-17-6 0pts) v. Washington Capitals (37-18-6 0pts)
Game Recap:
In Washington the Capitals would play host to the Pittsburgh Penguins as they would look to get themselves back on track as the month of February has not been a good one for the Capitals. In the first period it would be a heavy one for the Capitals as they would lay the body on the Penguins out hitting them 22 to 11, and Jakub Vrana would get the puck past Matt Murray thanks to a falling Marcus Pettersson to give the Capitals the 1-0 lead.
In the second period it would be mostly a quiet period as both teams would fail to capitalize on their powerplay opportunities, but late in the period the Penguins would get goals from Patric Hornqvist and Sidney Crosby with a span of 26 seconds to take the 2-1 lead over the Capitals.
Then in the third period the Capitals would respond with goals from Tom Wilson and Carl Hagelin to take the 3-2 lead, but Evgni Malkin would respond with his 21st of the season to tie the game at three. However, the Capitals would not quit as TJ Oshie would score the game winner, and Hagelin would net his second of the game with the empty netter to secure the 5-3 victory for the Capitals as they retake the lead in the Metropolitan Division.
